Belk Charity Day On November 10, 2007 Belk stores nationwide held their semi-annual Charity Day. Belk allowed non-profit agencies to sell tickets for $5 that entitled the purchaser to $5 off their first purchase as well as an additional 20-50% off from 6 a.m.-10 a.m. The Literacy Council sold 53 tickets which raised $265 to support programs and services. Thanks to all who sold or purchased tickets!

Link Your Grocery Cards to Support Literacy You
must re-enroll your Ingles Advantage Card at the beginning of each school
year. Ingles will maintain a cumulative total for BCLC and will provide the
reward to the school on the pay out period date. When you sign-up for the
Tools for Schools program and make purchases using your Ingles Advantage
Card, Ingles will give BCLC a portion of the total sales to be used to
purchase computers and supplies.
if you are unable to register your MVP Card online,
please contact customer relations at 704-633-8250 extension 3810,
and have your information entered over the phone. This costs you nothing but nets us 2% when you purchase Harris Teeter Brand products, Harris Teeter Brand, H.T. Traders, Harris Teeter Naturals, Harris Teeter Farmers Market, Hunter Farms, Top Care, More Value, Highland Crest, yourpet, Harris Teeter yourbaby and Harris Teeter yourtot, a percentage of those purchase dollars goes to BCLC. However, random weighted or bulk items in produce, meat (except poultry), seafood, deli-bakery, prepared foods, or pharmacy these brands are not included in the program.
Funding Received in 2007 Grants The North Carolina Community College System has approved the Literacy Council for $37,600 for Adult and English Literacy education. Burke County Smart Start has approved us for $33,730 for childhood education purposes. The Burke County United Way has approved $17,000 for furthering our current programs.
Donations The Community Foundation of Burke County has generously given the Literacy Council $3,000 to build a mobile computer lab. Target has donated $1,500, Beatrice Cobb Trust $1,000, Huffman-Cornwell $1,500, Rotary Club of Burke Sunrise $7,500, and Wal-Mart $500 for furthering our current programs.
